Sir Dave Brailsford Steps Down as Director of Manchester United

Manchester United’s transformation under the INEOS structure has led to significant changes over the past two years, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe at the helm reshaping various aspects of the football operation since his arrival at Old Trafford.

The club has already witnessed major shifts in recruitment, performance departments, and executive leadership as Ratcliffe advances his long-term vision for the team.

Now, another prominent figure from the early days of the INEOS takeover has officially stepped back from his position at the club.

Sir Dave Brailsford is no longer a director at Manchester United, following a departure confirmed through a Companies House filing submitted on May 7.

The filing revealed that Brailsford’s directorship officially ended on April 30, marking the conclusion of his active involvement with the club.

The 62-year-old emerged as a pivotal figure at Old Trafford following INEOS’ partial acquisition in February 2024, joining Ratcliffe as part of the restructured leadership team.

Known for revolutionizing British cycling into a competitive powerhouse, Sir Dave Brailsford swiftly engaged in Manchester United’s internal restructuring during the formative months of the INEOS era.

His influence at the club began to dwindle last year, and he ceased daily responsibilities in June 2025, after serving for approximately 18 months.

Despite his departure from the director role at United, Brailsford maintains a close relationship with Ratcliffe and continues as the INEOS Director of Sport.

Beyond football, Brailsford has redirected his focus to cycling through a new initiative involving the INEOS Grenadiers team.

The project, titled “Mission 8,” aims to secure an eighth Tour de France title, reflecting his previous ambitions during his tenure at Manchester United, where he famously referenced “Mission 21,” the objective of guiding the club to its 21st English league title.

Although Sir Dave Brailsford has now officially stepped down from his role at Manchester United, his contributions to the club’s modern INEOS-led rebuilding efforts will have a lasting impact.
