MLS Commissioner Don Garber’s Account Compromised After Controversial Post
MLS commissioner Don Garber confirmed that his X account was “compromised” following a recently deleted post that seemed to mock British Columbia Premier David Eby.
In a 45-second video shared on his X account on Wednesday, Eby assured the public that he is working diligently to prevent the Vancouver Whitecaps from relocating. “The Whitecaps are British Columbia, and I want you to know that we are at the table fighting hard to save the Whitecaps,” Eby stated, addressing the team’s supporters.
A reply to Eby’s post from Garber’s account read, “Liar liar pants on fire.” Approximately one hour later, Garber clarified the situation, stating, “My account was compromised earlier this evening. The issue has been resolved. I appreciate Premier Eby for taking the time to meet with me today.”
MLS executive vice president of communications Dan Courtemanche supported Garber’s claim by posting on X that “Commissioner Garber was hacked and did not post this.”
Garber, who has led the league since 1999, is currently in Vancouver to attend Thursday’s FIFA Congress and to discuss the future of the Whitecaps with government officials.
The Whitecaps, originally established in 1974 as part of the North American Soccer League, were revitalized as an MLS franchise in 2009.
The team has been for sale since December 2024, but according to the organization, “no viable offer has emerged that would keep the club here,” despite discussions with over 100 interested parties. Earlier this week, ESPN reported that investor groups from Phoenix and Las Vegas have shown interest in purchasing and relocating the team.
