Barcelona Set to Finalize Signing of Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon for £70 Million

Barcelona are poised to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer, with all parties reaching agreements. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move, indicating “Here we go,” as Newcastle has accepted the £70 million bid, which includes add-ons. Gordon is set to travel this week for his medical and contract signing.

This transfer may have various implications for Manchester United, affecting both outgoing players and potential signings.

Anthony Gordon vs Marcus Rashford for Barcelona Spot

One concern is the future of Marcus Rashford. The England international is currently on loan at Barcelona, where he has recorded 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 games, a contribution that helped secure the LaLiga title.

His successful debut season has reportedly impressed manager Hansi Flick, who is eager to retain the United loanee, thanks to an optional buy clause worth £26 million.

However, since Gordon occupies the same position as Rashford, it’s doubtful that Barcelona would spend £70 million on a backup player. While there are reports that Barcelona aim to sign both Rashford and Gordon, it’s unclear how they would fit into the lineup unless Rashford is seen as a future replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

If Barcelona decides against a permanent deal for Rashford, the 28-year-old will return to Old Trafford, where he is under contract for another three years at £325,000 per week. This hefty wage has complicated United’s attempts to offload him, though he has reportedly agreed to take a pay cut to ensure his transfer to Barcelona proceeds.

Fans will now await updates on whether Barcelona will still push to keep Marcus Rashford, or if Manchester United will face another struggle to relocate the forward this summer.

Manchester United’s Interest in Newcastle Players

Meanwhile, Manchester United is reportedly planning a move for Newcastle United players as part of the next phase of their squad overhaul.

The club aims to bring in three new midfielders and a left-back, focusing on Sandro Tonali and Lewis Hall. Although the pursuit of Tonali appears to have slowed recently, United is believed to still be pursuing him this summer.

Regarding Hall, United has reportedly reached out to his agency to inquire about his summer availability.

With Newcastle receiving £70 million for Anthony Gordon, there is now less pressure on them to sell Tonali or Hall at lower valuations, giving them stronger negotiating power. Consequently, United will need to present strong offers if they wish to secure both players this summer.
