Neymar is currently in the spotlight due to reports suggesting that the Brazilian forward has acquired Italian citizenship. This news has quickly spread across global media outlets and social networks, igniting speculation about the star’s future, particularly with the upcoming 2026 World Cup on the horizon.

The initial report by journalist Nicolo Schira indicated that Neymar had completed all necessary procedures and obtained an Italian passport with the assistance of lawyer Emiliano Nitti. This development raised various theories regarding the motivations behind his decision.

However, subsequent information has emerged that casts doubt on these claims. According to Corriere della Sera, Neymar’s recent visit to the Italian Consulate General in São Paulo was not for his own citizenship paperwork, but was instead related to citizenship matters concerning his children.

Reports indicate that Neymar’s partner, Bruna Biancardi, possesses dual citizenship—Brazilian and Italian. Under Italian law, children of Italian citizens are eligible for citizenship irrespective of their place of birth, making the arrangement of documents for their daughters a standard procedure. It is also noteworthy that Neymar has been a long-time representative of the Brazilian national team and would not be eligible to play for another national side, even with the acquisition of a second passport.
