Ricardo Goss has criticized the unrealistic nature of the criticism aimed at Bafana Bafana coach following the team’s 2-0 loss to Mexico. Goss, who serves as the second-choice goalkeeper for the national team, expressed support for the Belgian coach, arguing he should not be held solely responsible for the defeat against the World Cup co-hosts.
Goss stated, “It’s just unfortunate that we aren’t realistic enough as South Africa. I’m not saying we shouldn’t go try and win games but I think it’s unfair on the coach. If you look at his hips stay with the national team, I think that has been phenomenal, and it’s something we haven’t had for a while.” He emphasized the coach’s positive influence on the team and his longevity in the role.
Despite the disappointment following the loss, Goss noted that the coach’s demeanor would remain supportive. “We know that he will come at us, but we know that after the session he’ll go back to being our father and make jokes with us. We still love him and we’re going to play for him,” he added.
Bafana Bafana is set to face Czechia this Thursday in what promises to be a competitive match in Group A, as both teams are coming off losses, with Czechia having fallen to South Korea in their opening game.
