Tottenham Faces Challenges with Injuries as They Pursue AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini

Tottenham Hotspur is actively looking to strengthen their midfield ahead of the summer transfer window. The club has faced criticism for only signing Conor Gallagher and Souza during the winter transfer period, which left glaring issues in the squad, particularly the lack of a creative midfielder.

With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined due to injuries, Spurs have struggled to penetrate well-organized defenses and manage low-block tactics. The situation worsened as manager Roberto De Zerbi lost creative midfielder Xavi Simons to an ACL injury, prompting him to seek reinforcements for the upcoming season.

De Zerbi Aims for AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini

So far, De Zerbi’s tenure at Spurs has been encouraging. In his four matches in charge, he has secured two wins and a draw, helping the team temporarily escape the relegation zone. The five-year contract he received reflects the club’s commitment to support him in building the team long-term.

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, De Zerbi is determined to secure AS Roma duo Lorenzo Pellegrini and Mile Svilar, provided he can keep Tottenham in the Premier League.

Spurs have been closely monitoring Pellegrini’s situation for several months. The Italian international has made a significant impact at AS Roma since joining the club’s academy in 2007, accumulating nearly 350 appearances and contributing 62 goals and 63 assists.

Currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, Pellegrini’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Despite ongoing discussions, there have been no indications that he will extend his stay, with interest from other clubs on the rise. Recent reports suggest the Roma playmaker may need to accept a significant wage reduction to remain in Rome.

Described as the heartbeat of Roma, Pellegrini’s longstanding connection with the club is nearing its conclusion. With becoming a free agent this summer, Tottenham must act quickly to secure his services. With Simons likely out until 2026 and Kulusevski dealing with a complicated knee injury, Spurs need the leadership and experience that Pellegrini can bring to the team.

Given these circumstances, the Lilywhites must prioritize signing the talented and seasoned Pellegrini to help resolve their issues in the attacking third.
