Roy Keane Criticizes Bruno Fernandes for Prioritizing Personal Achievements

Roy Keane has criticized Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes for focusing on individual accolades over the team’s success following Sunday’s match against Nottingham Forest.

In their penultimate game of the season, the Red Devils triumphed at Old Trafford, winning three goals to two. The team’s efforts were highlighted by goals from Luke Shaw, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbuemo.

As Manchester United celebrated the victory at home, it appeared that they were also eager to assist Fernandes in breaking the Premier League assist record for a single season.

The Portuguese midfielder entered the match with 19 assists, just one shy of the records set by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne.

Fernandes provided the assist for Mbeumo’s third goal, pulling him level with the two legends. However, he could not secure his 21st assist, leaving the possibility open for him to set a new record on the season’s final day in Brighton.

Despite the win, Keane expressed discontent with Fernandes’ performance. The former Manchester United captain was particularly frustrated by Fernandes’s comments in a post-match interview, where the midfielder admitted he chose not to shoot in several instances, aiming instead for assists.

“I think what I heard around United over the weekend, honestly, I was raging about it. The whole conversation was about his assists, players talking about his assists,” said Keane during a recent episode of The Overlap.

“He got interviewed after the game and I was watching him, and everyone was talking about his assists. Even the players were. The whole discussion after the game was about his assists.
