Manchester United‘s Amir Ibragimov Earns Recognition in Russia’s National Squad
Manchester United is preparing for a summer filled with international football, with several key players expected to be in action. Thomas Tuchel is reportedly preparing to recall Luke Shaw to the England setup for the 2026 World Cup, following the defender’s impressive resurgence under interim boss Michael Carrick.
Beyond the established stars, Manchester United’s academy continues to produce top-tier talent, with a young attacker recently gaining recognition at the senior international level.
The Russian football federation confirmed that Manchester United winger Amir Ibragimov has been included in the country’s extended squad for their upcoming summer training camp and international fixtures. The Russian national team is set to face Egypt, Burkina Faso, and Trinidad and Tobago during the June international break.
Amir Ibragimov, an 18-year-old talent born in Dagestan, Russia, later moved to England, where he developed through the academies of Sheffield United and Manchester United. He has been recognized as one of the most promising players in United’s youth ranks for several years.
Though he has never played for Russia’s first team, Ibragimov has previously captained various academy sides. He gained significant attention in 2022 when he intentionally missed a penalty against Tottenham Hotspur, believing it had been awarded incorrectly. His growth has since accelerated, having trained with Manchester United’s first team multiple times and representing England at youth level.
Additionally, former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand was recently appointed by FOX Sports as part of their World Cup coverage team alongside James Corden. Now, Ibragimov achieves his own international recognition, with Russia confirming his inclusion in the extended squad through an official announcement Tuesday afternoon.
While it remains uncertain if Amir Ibragimov will play in the upcoming fixtures, this call-up marks an important milestone in his development at Manchester United.
