Tottenham Explores Alternative After Dropping Interest in Liverpool’s Curtis Jones

Tottenham Hotspur is gearing up for significant changes as the summer transfer window approaches. Several players are already linked with exits from the club.

Among those players is Conor Gallagher, who joined Tottenham for £34 million from Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window. Spurs sought midfield reinforcements after losing Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur to injuries. Recognizing Gallagher’s potential, the North London club took the opportunity to secure his services.

However, just three months later, Gallagher has been linked with a move to Everton. Surprisingly, Tottenham is considering moving on from the England international, as new head coach Roberto De Zerbi prefers different player profiles that Gallagher may not fit.

Earlier in the January transfer window, Tottenham showed interest in Liverpool star Curtis Jones before ultimately opting for Gallagher. Spurs believed that Jones might seek a move away from his boyhood club for more regular game time, but a transfer did not materialize, and he remained at Anfield.

Reason Revealed Behind Tottenham’s Withdrawal from Pursuit of Curtis Jones

Reports indicate that Tottenham did not make an official bid for Curtis Jones, choosing instead to sign Gallagher, according to GIVEMESPORT.

At 25, Jones is a versatile player capable of operating in various midfield roles. His skills include moving the ball upfield, recycling possession, and dictating game tempo. He is technically and tactically proficient, especially in retaining the ball in tight situations.

While both players fit the No.8 profile, they present distinct attributes on and off the pitch. Former manager Thomas Frank preferred Gallagher for his tenacity and work rate, whereas De Zerbi seeks a technically sound midfielder who can navigate through opposition lines and bait the press.

This makes Jones a potentially ideal fit for De Zerbi’s system. It remains uncertain whether Tottenham will rekindle their interest in Jones, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at Liverpool in June.
