Tottenham Eyes Replacement Goalkeeper Amid Vicario’s Uncertain Future

Guglielmo Vicario’s position at Tottenham Hotspur has become increasingly precarious in recent months.

Since taking over as Spurs’ undisputed No. 1 in 2023, Vicario has struggled to find his footing. He did not see any playing time under manager Roberto De Zerbi due to a groin injury that required surgery during the March international break, sidelining him for five consecutive matches. Antonin Kinsky filled in admirably during his absence, and upon Vicario’s return to fitness last week, De Zerbi opted to continue with Kinsky in goal.

Vicario has been heavily linked to a transfer to Inter Milan over the past three months. Reports indicate that personal terms have been agreed between Vicario and the Italian club. However, new developments have emerged, as it appears Inter Milan is reconsidering the move. The Serie A side is now expected to rely on Josep Martinez as their starting goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

This development leaves Vicario’s future with Tottenham uncertain. Although De Zerbi has stated that Vicario remains his first-choice goalkeeper, the Italian international may be aware that his time at the club is likely coming to a close. It seems that Spurs have started to explore options for a replacement if he departs.

Tottenham Pursues Benfica Goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Tottenham is targeting Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin as a potential addition to bolster their goalkeeping roster. The Ukrainian international is seen as an appealing choice due to his youth and significant potential for development.

Since moving to Benfica from Shakhtar Donetsk for €10 million in 2023, Trubin has made a notable impact. The 24-year-old finished the 2025/26 league season with 13 clean sheets and only conceded 24 goals in 32 matches. He is under contract at the Stadium of Light until 2028 and possesses a €100 million release clause.

Trubin recently expressed his willingness to reunite with De Zerbi, having learned a great deal from him during their time together at Shakhtar Donetsk. This connection could provide Tottenham with a slight advantage in negotiations with Benfica, although it remains unclear whether the Portuguese club would be willing to entertain a full payment of the release clause.

If that is the case, Spurs may need to consider alternative targets. However, securing Trubin would represent a strategic move for the club, bringing in a talented goalkeeper with strong distribution skills who aligns well with De Zerbi’s tactical approach.
