Tottenham Plans to Sign New Striker in Upcoming Transfer Window
Tottenham Hotspur’s efforts to secure their place in the Premier League will conclude on the final day after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Heading into the match against Chelsea, the North London club knew that a draw would be sufficient to maintain their top-flight status, given their favorable goal difference over relegation rivals West Ham United. However, the team failed to secure the needed point and must now achieve a positive result against Everton, managed by David Moyes, in their upcoming home fixture.
Meanwhile, the management at Hotspur Way is actively identifying potential signings. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi aims to strengthen the squad with players who align with his vision and playing style. The priority for the club will be to secure attacking reinforcements, as current forwards have struggled to impact games and score consistently this season.
Richarlison is the leading scorer for the club with 12 goals across all competitions; however, it has become clear that the Brazilian forward is not reliable enough to spearhead the attack throughout an entire season due to his injury issues and inconsistent performance. Additionally, Randal Kolo Muani’s performance against Chelsea highlighted his struggles as a signing for Tottenham, while Dominic Solanke’s injury problems persist as a concern.
Tottenham Sets Sights on Benfica Striker
According to reliable journalist Ekrem Konur, Tottenham is interested in acquiring Vangelis Pavlidis, a striker currently with Benfica. De Zerbi has pinpointed the Greek international as a key target for next season, prompting the club’s board to advance negotiations. Although no formal offer has been submitted, Pavlidis has also caught the attention of Aston Villa and AS Roma in recent matches.
Pavlidis has had a remarkable season with Benfica, scoring 30 goals and providing six assists in 53 games. The 27-year-old’s impressive form has gained recognition across Europe, although he is protected by an £85 million release clause. Nevertheless, Benfica is open to considering offers around £52 million, as noted by Konur.
Pavlidis Could Enhance Tottenham’s Attack
Pavlidis would be an intriguing addition for Tottenham, given his qualities that align with De Zerbi’s preferences in a forward. He is not solely a traditional striker; the strong Greek player is technically proficient and capable of linking play with other attackers in the final third. At 27, he is at the height of his career and may be eager to join a prestigious club like Tottenham.
Based on his scoring record at Benfica, where he has netted 60 goals in 110 appearances, Pavlidis would be a significant upgrade over Richarlison. The former AZ Alkmaar player would bolster Tottenham’s offense by supplying a consistent flow of goals.
