Andre Onana’s Future Uncertain as Trabzonspor Seeks Extended Loan

The future of Andre Onana remains unclear heading into the summer transfer window after the Manchester United goalkeeper spent this season away from Old Trafford.

Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan last summer following a difficult spell at United.

Since then, the Cameroon international has shown flashes of quality in Turkey.

There has already been speculation surrounding what happens next.

It was recently reported that Onana could even return to feature in Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Wrexham later this year.

Trabzonspor have also made no secret of their desire to continue working with the experienced goalkeeper.

That stance has now been publicly reinforced.

Speaking to Turkish channel HT Spor, Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has officially confirmed the club’s latest plan regarding Andre Onana.

However, the Turkish chief did not immediately confirm whether a permanent transfer is being pursued.

Instead, Trabzonspor are hoping to extend Onana’s stay through another temporary agreement with Manchester United.

Dogan said: “We want to loan Onana for one more year. Our coach also has a positive opinion.”

The Trabzonspor president also praised the goalkeeper’s influence behind the scenes, especially around younger members of the squad.

“He is a player who provides very good support for the development of the young players behind him,” Dogan added.

Reports in Turkey suggest Trabzonspor are prepared to cover significant costs in order to keep the Manchester United goalkeeper for another season.

Onana’s long-term future at Old Trafford still remains uncertain.

Manchester United are expected to review several positions in the squad this summer. Goalkeeper is one of them.

The 30-year-old still has valuable experience at the top level.

But it remains to be seen whether his future will ultimately be in Turkey, back at Manchester United, or elsewhere ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
