Harry Maguire Signs New Contract at Manchester United; Katie Zelem Joins West Ham

Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire recently signed a new contract at Old Trafford.

The deal followed an impressive second half of the season that helped secure Champions League qualification.

However, despite strong performances under Michael Carrick, the defender was surprisingly left out of England’s final squads for the 2026 World Cup.

Maguire posted an emotional message on social media admitting he felt “shocked and gutted” by the decision.

Another of former United captains have continued taking different paths after leaving Old Trafford.

Now, another ex-Manchester United skipper has officially secured her future elsewhere.

West Ham United have officially confirmed the permanent signing of former Manchester United captain Katie Zelem on a three-year contract.

The deal was announced on the club’s website and will become active from 1 July 2026.

Zelem initially joined West Ham on loan in January from London City Lionesses.

She quickly became an important player during the second half of the season.

The midfielder made nine appearances in all competitions as the Hammers secured a tenth-place finish in the Women’s Super League.

Only later in her career did Katie Zelem become one of the most recognisable names in women’s football at Manchester United.

She previously captained the club and made 161 appearances across a six-year spell.

During that time, she scored 32 goals and helped United win promotion to the top flight.

The former Red Devils star lifted the Women’s FA Cup in 2024.

Zelem also enjoyed successful spells in her career with Liverpool and Juventus.

She won two WSL titles with Liverpool and also listed the Serie A title during Juventus’ first-ever league-winning campaign.

Internationally, the 30-year-old has earned 12 senior England caps.

She was part of the Lionesses squad during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Speaking after completing the move, Zelem admitted West Ham already feels like “home”.

The former Manchester United captain will now continue her career in east London after officially putting pen to paper on a permanent deal.
