Turkish League team Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho has threatened to avenge his team’s 2-2 defeat to Lille in the third round of Champions League qualifying in Lille, France, early Wednesday IST.
“Let’s go to Kadikoy (location of Fenerbahce Stadium). Let’s welcome them with a yellow wave (Fenerbahce’s signature color). We’re waiting for them,” Mourinho was quoted as saying by AFP on Wednesday.
The coach, who has been competing in the Champions League for more than 20 years, did not want the team he had just coached in June 2024 to give up.
Fenerbahce equalized to 1-1 in the 80th minute through Irfan Kahveci’s goal to reply to Tiago Santos’ goal in the 12th minute.

However, in the 90+1 minute, substitute Edon Zhegrova scored Lille’s winning goal which dashed Fenerbahce’s hopes of stealing points from the first leg.
The second leg will be played at Fenerbahce’s home ground on August 14, 2024 early morning IST.
Including the match against Lille, Mourinho has recorded eight matches with Fenerbahce. The Special One has led the Turkish team to five wins, two losses and one draw.
Mourinho once led FC Porto and Inter Milan to win the Champions League in 2004 and 2010 respectively.
