Real Madrid started the 2024-2025 season with the European Super Cup trophy. Los Blancos won 2-0 over Atalanta. Despite starting positively, Madrid will also go through the season without Toni Kroos in midfield.
The German international has made up his mind to retire after Euro 2024, both at club and international level. Kroos has been with Madrid for 10 years and has won four LaLiga titles and five Champions League trophies.
Kroos’ role in midfield in controlling the rhythm of the game will be missed by Madrid, especially since the current squad does not have a player of his type despite having talented youngsters such as Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Arda Guler.

Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid coach, said that Madrid is adapting without Kroos. Ancelotti also confirmed that Madrid will no longer recruit players after signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
“The first game went well, we will always miss Kroos, he is a special player. It is impossible to find another player, we have to adapt,” Ancelotti was quoted as saying by Goal.
“The squad is closed, we have to wait until the market closes. We think Alaba will come back well. And we have young players who can play. We were unlucky with Joan’s injury. Asencio and Jacobo can contribute.”
Ancelotti also emphasized that he will help Mbappe adapt quickly in Madrid so that he can perform optimally.
“Mbappe is an extraordinary talent, we have to help him adapt as quickly as possible,” Ancelotti added. “He started well in the dressing room, very focused and very humble.”
“I will never tell a player how many goals he has to score, all I ask of them is to give everything they have for the team, nothing more.”
“Everyone has their own qualities, whether technical, tactical or motivational, and must use them for the team.”
