Tottenham Midfielder Joao Palhinha Draws Interest from Besiktas

Change appears imminent at Tottenham Hotspur, with reshaping expected for the squad as they strive to remain competitive in the top flight.

Several players face potential exits from the club, even as Spurs continue their efforts to avoid relegation. Included among those names are Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, and Micky van de Ven. Meanwhile, Joao Palhinha’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain.

Palhinha joined Spurs on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich last summer to provide a defensive anchor. The Portugal international quickly secured a place in former manager Thomas Frank’s plans, showcasing his ability to win balls and his physical prowess. However, the 30-year-old’s performance has declined since the beginning of the year, raising questions about his long-term prospects with the club.

On Saturday, Palhinha stepped off the bench to score the decisive goal in the second half against Wolves, leading Tottenham to their first league victory of 2026. His contribution proved critical in securing three vital points, which kept the team’s survival hopes alive.

Besiktas Interested in Securing Joao Palhinha

Tottenham is weighing whether to make Palhinha’s loan deal permanent, but other teams are also monitoring his situation as they explore options to bolster their squads.

According to Turkish newspaper Sabah (h/t Aspor), Besiktas is considering a move for Palhinha. They are closely observing the midfielder’s status and plan to pursue him this summer. Tottenham’s final standing at the end of the season will significantly influence this potential transfer.

Besiktas aims to enhance their No.6 position, and manager Sergen Yalcin appreciates Palhinha’s skills. If Tottenham faces relegation, Palhinha is likely to return to Bayern Munich. Recent statements from Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, suggest an acknowledgment of the player’s complicated situation, leaving the door open for a possible return.

Palhinha, who earned an 8/10 rating vs. Wolves, will need to make a choice in the upcoming summer. There is currently no assurance that he will remain with Tottenham beyond this season, particularly as the club considers the pre-agreed €25-30m fee excessive for a player approaching 31 in July.

It seems unlikely that Spurs’ management will reach a firm decision on the future of the Bayern loanee. Meanwhile, Besiktas is monitoring the developments closely, with the possibility of other clubs entering the competition for Palhinha’s signature.
