Alek Thomas Trades to Dodgers After Being Designated for Assignment

Alek Thomas has been traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Los Angeles Dodgers following a designation for assignment on Friday. In return, Arizona will receive minor league player Jose Requena.

The 17-year-old Requena, hailing from Venezuela, has not yet played in the minor leagues.

Thomas was drafted by Arizona in the second round of the 2018 draft and made his Major League debut in 2022. Throughout his 448 games with the Diamondbacks, he maintained a batting line of .230/.273/.361, with his most impressive performance occurring during the 2025 season when he recorded a .249/.289/.370 line.

As he joins the Dodgers, Thomas faces competition for a roster spot in a crowded outfield, which currently includes active players Alex Call, Andy Pages, Kyle Tucker, and Teoscar Hernández.
