Tottenham Holds 1-1 Draw Against Leeds, Staying Above Relegation Zone
Tottenham Hotspur’s recent 1-1 draw at home with Leeds United keeps them in a crucial position in the relegation battle. This perspective comes from Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith.
After playing 36 matches, Roberto De Zerbi’s squad finds themselves 17th in the table, two points clear of West Ham, who are sitting in 18th place. Had they secured a victory over Leeds, they could have extended that gap to four points. However, the draw puts Spurs at risk of slipping into the relegation zone, as West Ham faces Newcastle United before Tottenham’s next away match against Chelsea.
With several key players returning to full fitness and an increase in morale compared to earlier in the season, De Zerbi is optimistic about steering the team clear of relegation. The Italian coach believes that the struggle against relegation will extend until the final day, following their draw with Leeds United.
Pedro Porro Committed to Securing League Safety for Tottenham
Pedro Porro, who delivered an impressive performance against Leeds, achieving an 8/10 rating, shares his manager’s outlook. The right-back acknowledges that the fight to avoid relegation will last until the season’s conclusion, and he is prepared for this challenge.
“On the one hand, we want the season to end, but on the other, we have to work until the very end. There’s no other option,” Porro stated during his appearance on Spanish radio show El Larguero (h/t Cadena SER).
“We have to finish in the best way possible. It’s true that right now we’re two points above them, and they play before us. Now anything goes. We have to consider everything. That’s the reality, and everything counts.”
Tottenham Must Rely on West Ham’s Missteps
In their remaining matches, West Ham will compete against Newcastle United and Leeds United, while Spurs face Chelsea and Everton. Historically, Tottenham struggles against Chelsea, particularly at Stamford Bridge, and their home record this season does not offer much reassurance for the final game against Everton.
As a result, De Zerbi and his team will need West Ham to stumble in one of their last two matches, which could allow Tottenham to secure safety with a few points from their upcoming fixtures. Nonetheless, Spurs will approach their games with a winning mentality, understanding they cannot solely depend on their rivals’ performances.
