In a recent press conference, Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola addressed a question regarding the potential absence of midfielder Rodri from the World Cup. The inquiry sparked intrigue among journalists, leading to an unexpected response from the veteran coach.

When asked if there was a chance that Rodri, a 29-year-old holding midfielder for both Manchester City and the Spanish national team, could miss the upcoming tournament, Guardiola’s reply elicited smiles followed by a wave of concern.

“Is there a chance Rodri could miss the World Cup? No!

Actually, yes! There is a chance, if Luis De la Fuente doesn’t call him up to the national team!” Guardiola stated.

Rodri’s participation in the 2026 World Cup appears uncertain, as he has been plagued by injuries this season, hindering his ability to contribute fully during the campaign.
