Manchester United Prepares Two-Year Contract Offer for Michael Carrick

Manchester United is diligently crafting a contract offer for Michael Carrick to avoid past mistakes. The 44-year-old returned to the club as interim head coach in January after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Since then, Carrick has guided Manchester United back on track, achieving 10 wins, three draws, and two defeats in his first 15 matches, which secured a return to the Champions League and nearly ensured a Top 3 finish.

Michael Carrick Offered a Two-Year Contract

There have been widespread calls for Carrick to be appointed as permanent head coach due to the team’s improved performance, particularly given the scarcity of high-profile candidates available. However, INEOS has chosen to wait until the end of the season before making any final decisions.

Although the club’s hierarchy has not made an official announcement, reliable sources within the British media suggest that an internal decision has likely been made regarding Carrick, indicating he may continue at Carrington. Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada and Football Director Jason Wilcox have agreed that Carrick is the best fit for the role at this time, awaiting final approval from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

In a recent update on RoundTable, MUFC insider Sully revealed specifics about the contract offer. He anticipates that the 44-year-old will receive a two-year contract with an option for an additional year. Sully also noted that Carrick has been acting as the de facto permanent head coach, already involved in player recruitment for the upcoming summer transfer market.

Why Manchester United Should Avoid a Long-Term Deal for Carrick

While many fans are hopeful Carrick will remain at Carrington long-term, journalist Samuel Luckhurst from The Sun argues against granting him a long-term contract. Luckhurst points out that no Manchester United manager has surpassed three years in the post-Ferguson era and recalls that David Moyes, despite a six-year deal, was dismissed in the middle of his first season.

For Carrick, confirmation of his role is a well-earned milestone, and as long as he continues to achieve positive results and demonstrates a vision for progress, the club hierarchy may consider extending his contract further down the line.
