Barcelona Manager Approves Marcus Rashford’s Extended Stay
The future of Marcus Rashford remains one of the biggest talking points ahead of the summer transfer window.
Fresh reports have now revealed a major decision has been made behind the scenes at Barcelona.
The Manchester United forward spent the season on loan in Spain after falling out of favour at Old Trafford before his temporary move away from the club.
Last month, Barcelona missed the 28-year-old’s buy option deadline, putting his future in jeopardy.
Despite uncertainty surrounding whether Barcelona would pursue a permanent deal, Rashford’s performances during the second half of the campaign reportedly impressed several figures internally.
He helped the Spanish giants win their 29th La Liga title.
Manchester United are still expected to make major attacking changes this summer as INEOS continue planning the rebuild under Michael Carrick.
Rashford’s long-term future has therefore remained unclear for months.
However, according to Matteo Moretto, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has now given the green light for the England international to remain at the club beyond this season.
The report claims Marcus Rashford is also prepared to make a financial sacrifice in order to stay in Spain permanently.
Barcelona must now continue negotiations with Manchester United as they explore the structure of a possible agreement.
Rashford enjoyed an improved spell during his time away from Old Trafford after struggling for consistency during the final stages of his Manchester United career.
The forward remains one of the most high-profile academy graduates produced by the club in recent history.
He has made more than 400 appearances for United since his senior debut under Louis van Gaal.
Earlier this month, reports also suggested Barcelona were reluctant to completely walk away from negotiations despite ongoing financial concerns.
Now, Flick’s approval appears to have handed the Spanish side a significant boost in their pursuit of the Manchester United forward.
A final decision on Rashford’s future is still expected later this summer as discussions continue between all parties involved.
