Borussia Dortmund Rules Out Jadon Sancho Reunion as Transfer Plans Take Shape
Borussia Dortmund has secured a Champions League slot for next season, finishing second in the Bundesliga for the fifth time in the last decade. Despite Bayern Munich‘s dominance in the league, winning this season by 16 points, Dortmund remained the consistent runners-up, finishing eight points ahead of third-place RB Leipzig.
As they gear up for next year’s campaign, the German club is focusing on its transfer strategies, quelling speculation about a possible reunion with Jadon Sancho.
Lingering connections between Manchester United‘s Jadon Sancho and Dortmund have persisted since his unsuccessful transfer from Germany to Old Trafford in 2021. Sancho returned to Dortmund on loan for half of the 2023/24 season after a public falling out with Manchester United’s then-manager, Erik ten Hag.
Jadon Sancho Faces Uncertain Future with End of Manchester United Contract
Sancho has been subject to multiple loan spells, first with Chelsea and currently with Aston Villa. This summer marks the expiration of his contract with Manchester United, making him a free agent, which is likely to generate interest.
However, Sports Bild reports that Dortmund will not pursue a third stint for the winger, indicating that a return to his former club is off the table.
Dortmund’s sporting director, Lars Ricken, is reportedly surprised by claims that Sancho wishes to return, noting that the club has yet to receive any communication from him or his representatives. There is also skepticism within the Bundesliga team about Sancho’s ability to regain his previous form, given his struggles at Chelsea and Aston Villa, even after making history as the first player to feature in three consecutive European finals.
Alternative options for Sancho may include the Turkish Super Lig, as clubs such as Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Galatasaray are showing interest, having been linked last summer as well.
