Alexandre Santos views this year’s CAF Champions League final as a significant opportunity to showcase Portuguese talent in football. Santos, whose roots are in Portugal, shares this connection with Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso.
In a statement made ahead of the match scheduled at Loftus Versfeld, Santos highlighted the historical context of the final, noting that a Portuguese coach winning the title would be unprecedented since the legendary Manuel José achieved this with Al-Ahly.
“There will be a Portuguese coach being the champions, you know Manuel José the legend won before,” Santos remarked. He added, “On 24 May there will be a second, either me or Miguel.”
Santos expressed his excitement about reaching the final with ASFAR, saying, “I’m happy to reach the final with my staff. I was here twice to face Sundowns with Petro but this one is special.” The match is set to commence at 4 PM.
