Aston Villa is turning its attention to Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara after initially scouting his teammate Wilfried Singo, according to Turkish outlet Takvim. Sara has caught Villa’s eye during that scouting process, and the club is expected to make a formal bid soon. Turkish outlet Fanatik reports that Villa is keen to acquire the 26-year-old, with negotiations likely intensifying over the coming weeks.

Aston Villa Targets Brazilian Talent as Summer Transfer Season Progresses

Representatives from Villa were recently spotted in Istanbul to evaluate Sara’s tactical discipline and his performance in high-pressure matches, per Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte. With 11 goal contributions in 42 games this season, Sara is pivotal for the Turkish giants and is under contract until June 2029. His statistics substantiate the interest, as his non-penalty expected goals (xG) rank him in the top 81st percentile among Süper Lig players, while his creativity places him in the top 6% of all midfielders in the league.

Galatasaray maintains the advantage with several years left on his contract; they have set a €30 million starting point for negotiations, although many anticipate the final price could reach €40 million. Villa, along with Everton and Tottenham, is vying for his signature, while Napoli is also eyeing him as a valuable European target. Sunderland and Fulham showed interest in January, but no formal offers materialized. Sara’s value increased further after receiving his first call-up to the Brazil national team, providing Galatasaray with even greater leverage in discussions.

Sara’s Profile: Strengths and Weaknesses for Villa Park

Sara’s left-footed vision and versatility make him an attractive option. He is a high-volume passer, averaging over 50 passes a game with an 87% success rate, and he consistently takes risks, recording 2.64 key passes per match. Throughout the 2025/26 season, he ranked in the top 10% for shots, shot-creating actions, and ball progression.

However, his defensive contributions can be a concern. He does not excel as a midfield destroyer and often struggles in physical duels or in breaking up play like a traditional number six. In Unai Emery’s high-intensity pressing system, Sara would likely require a more combative and disciplined partner to manage defensive duties, allowing him to focus on offensive play.
