Final England Squad Announced for 2026 FIFA World Cup
The final England squad selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has already produced several major talking points.
It recently became public knowledge that Manchester United defenders Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw would miss out on selection.
This was despite both being heavily involved under Michael Carrick during the second half of the season.
Maguire later released an emotional statement on social media.
The 33-year-old admitted that he felt “shocked and gutted” by the decision.
Meanwhile, a number of United players have already discovered they will represent their countries at this summer’s tournament.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been included in Belgium’s squad after an impressive campaign.
Now, England have officially confirmed that two United players will still be heading to the World Cup.
The England national team announced on their channels that both Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have been selected in Thomas Tuchel’s final squad for the tournament in North America.
Mainoo’s inclusion follows a strong end to the season at Old Trafford.
The midfielder recently committed his long-term future to Manchester United by signing a new contract with the club.
Despite his age, he has continued to establish himself as one of the most important young players in the squad.
As for Rashford, his situation remains far less certain.
The winger spent the Barcelona-officially-announce-marcus-rashford-signing/”>2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona after leaving United temporarily last summer.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign in Spain.
Reports have continued to suggest that the Catalan side are exploring ways to keep him for at least another season.
A return to Old Trafford currently appears unlikely.
England will head into the tournament with major expectations under Tuchel.
The former Chelsea manager will hope Rashford and Mainoo can both play important roles during the competition.
The World Cup begins next month across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
