Premier League Begins to Take Shape for Next Season

The Premier League is beginning to form for the upcoming season as teams from both the current league and the Championship prepare for the twenty sides that will compete in England’s top flight next campaign.

Manchester United remains a part of this picture, with their spot in next season’s Premier League already secured ahead of the summer transfer window.

Coventry City will join the league from the Championship after being promoted as champions.

One additional club will enter through the play-offs, which include Millwall, Southampton, Middlesbrough, and Hull City, following the league’s final day. The contest for the second automatic promotion spot extended to the last day of the season, with Millwall, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich Town all capable of promotion depending on the outcomes of their matches.

Ultimately, it was Ipswich Town that clinched their place in the Premier League for next season. Entering the final day in second place, the Tractor Boys needed a win to secure promotion.

In their match against Queens Park Rangers, Ipswich delivered a convincing 3-0 victory, ensuring their position in England’s top flight.

Manager Kieran McKenna will once again reunite with Manchester United after previously serving as a coach and assistant manager at the Under-18 level before joining Ipswich Town in 2021.

Under McKenna’s guidance, Ipswich Town achieved promotion to the Premier League during the 2023-24 season, marking his return to Manchester United for the first time.

A 19th place finish could have resulted in relegation for Ipswich, but McKenna led the Tractor Boys back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

It is still uncertain when the two teams will meet, as fixtures are scheduled to be announced on Friday, June 19.
