Pressure Mounts on Marseille Manager Habib Beye Amid Poor Start
Marseille’s manager Habib Beye is facing growing pressure following disappointing results in his first nine games, raising questions about his future with the Ligue 1 club. The Senegalese head coach oversees a team that includes former Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood, but with the club slipping out of the Champions League race, Beye’s position looks uncertain.
Reports suggest that Beye, who has managed to win only four of his first nine matches, was offered to fellow French team Paris FC behind the scenes, complicating an already shaky situation. This news comes at a time when the team is struggling, currently sitting in sixth place.
Habib Beye Offered to Paris
According to FootMercato, questions about Beye’s long-term goals intensified when Marseille’s Sporting Director, Medhi Benatia, publicly addressed the players earlier this month. Benatia stated, “I wasn’t planning on speaking until the end of the season, because we talked too much the first six months.”
He continued, “As I explained to the players, when you are here you always have a sense of responsibility. I have no problem being told that I brought a coach back on a project that was supposed to stay longer but left, no problem.”
“To be told that the players I brought back who were very good in September and who today are very bad, no problem. That I brought back a new coach who isn’t good either, I accept it… But when I see the matches we’re playing today, even if I don’t want to talk, I have to come to the press.”
These remarks underline the difficulties currently faced by the club, which is drifting further away from UEFA Champions League contention.
Mason Greenwood and Marseille’s Struggles
Amid the turmoil at Marseille, Mason Greenwood has seen limited success with only four goal involvements over the past two months. He is now attracting interest from Paris FC, which is reportedly preparing a bid for him ahead of the summer transfer window.
The situation is challenging for Marseille, especially following the departure of manager Roberto De Zerbi earlier this season. The club will be keen to retain such a key player during this tough period.
