Southampton’s head coach Tonda Eckert and several members of the coaching staff may face lengthy suspensions following allegations of spying on playoff rivals Middlesbrough. The situation has arisen as Southampton appears to have breached regulations regarding observation of opposing teams’ training sessions.

The club has been charged by the English Football League (EFL) for violating Rule 127, which prohibits clubs from observing the training of another team within 72 hours prior to a match. The EFL, alongside football authorities, will examine all available evidence related to this incident to determine the appropriate disciplinary measures, including a potential suspension for Eckert.

In addition to Eckert, the Football Association and EFL are investigating the involvement of Southampton’s technical director Johannes Spors and other staff members. The scrutiny also extends to the club’s intern analyst William Salt, who was reportedly photographed at Middlesbrough’s training session ahead of their playoff semi-final.
