Tottenham Holds Talks to Pursue Sassuolo Defender Tarik Muharemovic

Tottenham Hotspur has engaged in face-to-face discussions regarding the potential acquisition of Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic. This comes after Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali visited London for talks, as reported by Football Fancast.

The 23-year-old Bosnian international has distinguished himself as one of the top defenders in Serie A this season. With 31 appearances, he leads his team in key defensive metrics including aerial duels won, interceptions, clearances, and blocks. His impressive stats highlight his skills as a commanding and physically imposing centre-back, reflecting his performance with 44 tackles, 45 interceptions, 31 blocks, and 213 clearances throughout 2,746 minutes of league play, alongside contributing two goals. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Muharemovic provides the aerial and defensive strength that Tottenham’s backline has sorely missed this season.

Sassuolo Sets €35 Million Price Tag for Muharemovic

According to sources, Sassuolo is asking for €35 million for Muharemovic’s transfer and is not considering player-plus-cash deals. This demand benefits Tottenham significantly due to the financial differences between themselves and Inter Milan, who are also eyeing the player. The price tag is more feasible for Spurs compared to the budget constraints facing the Italian giants, giving them a competitive edge in the bidding for his services.

Another important aspect of this development relates to Marcos Senesi. The Bournemouth defender had been rumored to have reached an agreement to join Tottenham on a free transfer this summer. However, recent reports indicate that, despite discussions, Senesi has yet to finalize the deal. The interest in Muharemovic as an alternative suggests that Tottenham is carefully evaluating their defensive options, rather than simply moving ahead with previously announced targets.

Given that Cristian Romero is expected to depart and there are uncertainties regarding Micky van de Ven’s future amid interest from Real Madrid, securing effective defensive reinforcements is crucial for Spurs this summer. It remains to be seen whether the club will proceed with Muharemovic, Senesi, or potentially both, but the fact that Sassuolo’s CEO made the trip to London indicates the seriousness of this pursuit.
