Manchester United Prioritizes Midfield Reinforcements Ahead of Summer Transfer Window

Manchester United are set to prioritize midfield reinforcements during the upcoming summer transfer window, as the club prepares for a midfield overhaul under manager Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils have already secured Champions League soccer for next season, shifting focus to enhancing key squad areas before the new campaign kicks off.

A particular area of concern is central midfield, especially with veteran player Casemiro expected to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season.

United are believed to be seeking a more dynamic long-term partner for Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, with several names currently in consideration.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United are making a strong push for both Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United and Ederson from Atalanta, potentially completing a significant double signing this summer.

The club has reportedly made it clear that strengthening the midfield is a top objective, with growing internal confidence regarding the potential to secure both players.

Manchester United Confident in Securing Double Deal

Di Marzio indicated that United is optimistic about finalizing a double deal for the duo.

Ederson is regarded as one of the club’s primary midfield targets, with reports suggesting the Brazilian has already agreed on personal terms with United ahead of a possible transfer.

The midfielder is set to leave Atalanta following their last Serie A match against Fiorentina, concluding a successful tenure in Bergamo since joining from Salernitana in 2022.

Ederson completed an £18.4 million (€21.4 million) transfer to Atalanta three years ago and has become a pivotal figure in their midfield, making 180 appearances and registering 16 goals and 6 assists across all competitions.

This season alone, the Brazilian has played 41 matches, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists while again showcasing his athleticism and defensive prowess.

However, United face competition, as Atletico Madrid is also monitoring him, though sources suggest the Premier League club currently leads the pursuit.

In the meantime, United’s pursuit of Sandro Tonali has gained momentum after Fabrizio Romano recently reported that the Newcastle midfielder is not seeking a return to Italy this summer and wishes to remain in the Premier League.

This development is seen as a substantial boost for United, who view Tonali as another midfielder capable of enhancing the balance and intensity of their squad.

The club is also exploring various additional midfield options, with players such as Elliott Anderson, Mateus Fernandes, and Carlos Baleba linked as United broadens its search in the transfer market.

With Carrick aiming to assemble a younger, more agile midfield centered around Mainoo ahead of the upcoming season’s Champions League return, Manchester United’s summer dealings are heating up.
